Has Canada updated it's medical regs to allow just one medical a year for over 40's with an ATPL yet?

I've got my second one this year next month, so I don't think so... In fact this is the first I've heard of "Once a year for 40+"...

Do tell...

Europe just gone up to one check per year until you hit 60.

Cheers

Not here - TC makes too much money off the extra medical. Never happen.

TC does not make money from the recurrent medical fees. The cost of administering the aviation medical system is far greater than the $110 a year they charge us. According to my AME, the only reason we've still got age 40 rule is because of ICAO requirements, otherwise we'd switch to annual medicals across the board for ATPLs under 60. If Europe's gone that way, ICAO must have changed that rule, so maybe there's some hope yet ...

Only pilots are charged the fee, ATC and F/As and whatever are not charged.

Supposedly they use the fee to fund pubs.; it doesn't cost $55 to stick a form in a file and print a bit of paper every 2 years.

I stand by my post. Like somebody else posted, "Canada is a frozen banana republic."

Thanks,
Just wondered it Canada had caught up as my ME here said that Canada was in the forefront of the process to change, he has a few contacts in the TC medical division.

My Doctor mentioned on my visit last month that TC would soon be adopting the once a year standard for pilots over 40. He didn't know exactly when.
