How comes is it

We've got a trough moving across us but yet all metar's are showing QNH of around 1014 ? I thought that was avergage pressure ?

I can see some lovely CBs out the window too, which I thought were linked with high pressures or cold fronts coming through....

I had assumed they were based on the pressure settings. High was > 1013, low was <1013

I've flown in depressions before but they were all in the 999mb range. I've also seen anticyclones which were very high (1028 range).

Maybe it is relative to what is around it as you say, rather than some specific range.
