Departing Perth early Sun morning and turning onto the runway we hear over the cabin pa system "Singapore 216 cleared for takeoff Runway 21 " and then we're off.

How'd that happen?

Ah yes, and then there was Phil...
Capt Phil was a recently retired very senior TWA Captain, who went to work for a small south asian airline flying the Lockheed TriStar.
It was his custom to give very long PA announcements and one early evening he was heard on the Wein ATC frequency for no less than 12 minutes, discribing the attribites of the navigation prowess of his airplane...three INS's, FMS's, could navigate to the moon and back, and land within spitting distance of the desired spot...all delivered in his southern drawl
Of course he pressed the wrong button, and it went out for all to hear and 'appreciate'...except for the folks at Wein control, who as you might imagine were absolutely not amused, to say the least.
Capt Phil, by the way was no less than triple line qualified at TWA...he flew the B767, L1011 and B747...all on the same monthly roster.

I asked him which was his favorite...and his reply was...the Lockheed TriStar, of course.
Nothing finer, he said.

Maybe it's a 'Phil' thing?

BA 747 takes off, settled into the climb, cabin signs switched off, and Captain Speaking says to the FO,

"I wouldn't mind sh**ing that new girl when we get to Bahrain"

while pressing the wrong button.

New girl rushes forward from the back of the cabin to the flight deck to get him to switch off.

Little old lady in Business stops her and says; "No need to hurry, dear, he said when we get to Bahrain".
