View Full Version : Any flying geologists out there?

Was wondering, as a professional geologist/geophysicist & PPL amateur if anyone out there has managed to successfully combine flying & the geosciences (or similar), either making money out of it or at least paying for their flying?

Know there's a few guys out there running volcano sightseeing tours & the like & then there's the aerial surveying crowd, but has anyone started with the geology first & used the plane as a "classroom" on to the landscape below??

Just asking...;)

Cheers & interested in your answers...

I know there are a few companies who do geophys/geological (eg Fugro) surveys and some first pass mineral exploration and the like from the air, but they will almost certainly employ professional pilots and the geoscientist as an observer...

you might like to get after the hot air balloon companies operating in such places as cappadocia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cappadocia) and offer them your services as a special guide.
