Incident involving Aeroflot on App to Man 18/9

Anybody heard anything about the strange approach the Aeroflot Dc10 freighter did to Manchester this afternoon? appartently Atc were none too pleased! Approach was all over the show!!....??

Since you are clearly a consummate professional aviator, could you please inform us lesser mortals what you consider "all over the show" to mean in words that we might understand?

I noticed it on approach when it was 3-5nm from the threshold, and I didn't see anything which stood out.

Disclaimer: I was about 1 mile to the south at the time and could only see it side on.

'Reaching the Dayne hold at around FL150...then overflying the 23R threshold at at FL070 West Bound!!!!!.Then descending to 2000ft when only cleared to 5000ft'......................................

I'm interested to learn how it was established that it directly overflying the 23R threshold and at at FL070, which idiot was standing on the 23R threshold looking upwards and just how long was his measuring stick?

Perhaps a comprehensive, unemotional report on what happened might help those us us with poor psychic powers understand.

"All over the show" is not exactly helpful and crossing the theshold at FL070 going in any old direction should result in a succesful and uneventful landing.

Descending to 2000 ft in the Manchester TMA is reasonably safe (traffic permitting) ... at least he wasn't in Denver.

I suppose it depends WHERE he descended.You MUST decend below the MSA at some stage.(When established on ILS or other procedure)

It wasn't meant to be a precise number .. actually at Manchester MEF is 2200, EGCC is 257 .... even in the highest bit of N Wales over Snowdon MEF is only 3900.
