I am looking for a source of charts and approach plates for Morocco. I have the airways charts I need to get down there but my Jepp subscription is European and does not give the App plates and before I went and paid to upgrade it thought I would ask if there are any others sources.

I also need some VFR charts of the Morocco area for local touring when we get there.

And finally anyone have any experience of flying into Morocco, I guess Tangier being the obvious port of entry.

Plan is:

Spanhoe-Guernsey-Biarritz-Jerez-Tangier

Here is the one we used link (http://www.onda.org.ma/ONDA/Fr/Espaces/EspaceONDA/LInstitution/Lesmissions/Informations+aéronautiques+%28SIA%29/AIP+en+vigueur/MAP+-+Cartes/)

Mostly in French - but all the plates are there. Charts are more difficult since you need to actually visit Casablanca. We used borrowed old american military ones.

Tangier is by far the best port of entry for GA - much less hassle and more friendly. Marrakech is big busy and you may need to queue if your timings not perfect. Having said that you need to do ALL of the landing card crap every time you land so if you have the range and intend going there no problem. BUT if you want easy fuel then Tangiers is much easier, albeit served from drums.

We flew VFR - very good for scenery but we were very alone...They run strict VFR routing with flight plans (they wont let you file any other than approved routes - what you fly may vary ;) )

Cool, thanks for the advice. Does Avgas have to be pre-booked or is it on standby in the drums?

Tangiers tend to have a pile of Avgas drums sitting around. Marrakech has a big tanker and on-site fuel depot.

In both cases they ONLY take cash (or Fuel card in Marrakech) and you potentially need to take enough Euros to convert. In Marrakech you need to prove that you converted locally with a BANK Receipt signed and stamped :ugh: (till receipts are not accepted). The guy in Tangier was relaxed and we went into the terminal block and used the cash machines (escorted in and out by security so no hassle). DO NOT Attempt this in Marrakech (it is a long way to the terminal and security would be a pain) - fuel on your way out unless you already have cash and receipts when you land.

We didnt go into Casablanca so I cant give any real advice on that one.

Tipping the guy who assists you when you land at Marrakech may be a good idea ;) (he has a funny eye and is responsible for looking after the GA aircraft - we didnt "tip" him until later and suddenly things became a little easier... but it is probably not necessary)

It was a lovely place to go and all the people are friendly including the military but the beggars can be a nusiance - enjoy....

PS. Remember that they want 24hr flight plan notice (although we got away without - since we had some problems with the Spanish rejecting our original plan - very useful they told london it had been reject with the reason being in spanish :{ we had to get our hotelier to interpet)

Used '98 US "TPC" charts for VFR - no CAS and few DA's marked but downloaded all info from the Moroccan AIS and manually transferred onto chart - checked with the (very helpful) FBO in Tanger and all OK.

Standard VFR routing mandatory - all waypoints available from AIS or from the Tanger FBO.

Got Avgas direct from fixed installation pumps at Tanger and Fez, from trucks at Marrakech, and from drums at Tetouan. No need to pre-book at any.

Morocco's a great destination, you'll enjoy it.

Bose, when are you intending to fly ? If this can wait a couple of weeks I'll be able to help you with the VFR charts (already marked up) and some plates. Trouble is they are in Spain, I am in London......

PM me if you need more details.

PS: also flown there quite a bit, have written about it here, you shoud be able to find the thread

When I flew into GMMX, I fueled on arrival (avgas), paid with US $100 bills.
"Funny eye" got a good tip as well.
I had Jepp charts.
