Hi all!

Wonder if some one out there can help me with a licensing issue which I've been grappling with. I cant seem to find the necessary info in my plethora of air law material.

I am due to start an A320 type rating shortly. I have a JAR CPL/IR (SEP MEP and SPA-ME-IR). These ratings will all be current when I start my type rating, but I suspect the MEP will lapse before I finish it (and if delayed, possibly the IR).

Does anyone know if this will affect my type rating or if it only needs to be valid when I start.

Thanks!

Not sure if this helps.

From LASORS:

An applicant for the first type rating course for a MPA
shall provide evidence that the following requirements
have been met:-

a........

b. hold a current and valid multi-engine Instrument
Rating (Aeroplanes). This is only a requirement for
an initial MPA type rating and not subsequent type
ratings.

I started my B737 rating 14 months after my initial MEP / IR test and had no problems.

Your A320 type rating should include a Multi Pilot IR as part of the test items though your single pilot IR will lapse....probably.

Thanks for the replies chaps.... it sounds like I may be OK.

One thing does confuse me though. If you get a MPA IR as part of the type rating, then why do you need to do a SPA IR in the first place? Especially if it can lapse before you start the TR?

It can't lapse before you start your type rating. You must have a valid IR before you start.

What if one has a current ICAO multi-pilot IR, but the UK JAA IR has lapsed and there was never any type on the UK licence, can one still start the JAA initial type rating based on the validity of the ICAO IR?
