Worst weather!!!

Is this rain ever gonna stop? I finished my PPL ground schooling in two months so that I can fly later at a faster rate without any acadamic pressures. But seems that nature didnt like the idea. Could not fly for last 3 weeks.

I wonder if it is gonna be like this....may be its time to head west across Atlantic or east across channel. How the weather has been treating you guys???

If your flexible and your school/instructors are flexible then tell them you will fly when ever gaps become available...

Well...as everyone else at the beginning of my flying with PPL I wanted to create my own plan to get to CPL, had dates figured out and all that, but unfortunately aviation doesn't work like that. It is always "due" to something; maintenance, weather, closures, etc... so as soon as you get the "reality check" the better you are going to plan in the future.
With all the global warming, pilots will be among those to take the highest risks over already high risk jobs.
Unfortunately, we live in a quite chaotic world today, so the rage of mother nature comes naturally back to us.

I'm thinking of bimbling over the pond myself.
Since I started taking lessons in March I've only managed 3 hours.
Some of that is a due to me working full time and its only a small club but its mostly down to this cr@p weather. Last lesson was end of May, it hasn't stopped pouring down since :{

Billa in Greece we haven't had "bad weather" since February.
Flying here with PPL is an 11 month operation non stop.

If you took a low cost charter flight to a Greek destination you could easily combine it with a "flying vacation" within the EU. Rental costs here are just a tad cheaper then the UK (due to Euro vs Pound) and charter flights to/from UK for package holidays (no extras just hotel & flight) are really cheap.

Egnatia Aviation in Kavala LGKV with a complete Diamond fleet and Cretan Eagle Aviation in Iraklion LGIR with Cessna's and a Piper Arrow operate with UK instructors. There's also Aeroservices with Socata TB9's and Global with Pipers in Athens Megara LGMG as well as Mesogeion Aeroclub with a C172 and Dekelia aeroclub with Cessna's and a Piper Saratoga in Athens Tatoi LGTT.
The largest and most active in Greece is Thessaloniki Aeroclub with a big fleet of Cessna's.

All these are busy flight schools with almost fully booked up schedules but you can always contact them in advance and book some block hours to be executed within a sensible time period so that they enable you to do some nice cross country flights.

Just in the process of changing jobs, got 4 months gardening leave. Intention was to fly, fly, fly. Unfortunately nature has other plans, lets hope we get some sun at the weekend, got a club flyout planned. Good luck to all wishing to take to the skies some time soon.

I'm just hoping for a long, hot indian summer....I'm not holding my breath tho!

I did QXC two weeks ago, loved every minute! Took off straight into a rain squall, popped out 30sec later into "clear" sky, spent 20mins dodging squalls to first turning point, raced very thick black stuff to turning point, (best steep turn onto track I've done). Ran for Perth to first land away, landed, signed in, black stuff caught up, got dumped on for 10mins trying to have a smoke!. Took off for Dundee, trying not to catch up with departed black stuff, landed, signed in & ran for home, landed in bumpy crosswind. Distance 105nm, NPPL good enough! Great stuff, GST next Wed, hope the weather starts to behave.

Reminds me of my skills test. On my first leg (no radio nav/GPS allowed, just dead reckoning and visual nav), over very featureless terrain, dodging rain showers all the way. More luck than skill that I ended up over my first turning point. As soon as the examiner allowed it, did a VOR cross bearing to verify that I was indeed where I was supposed to be. Plain sailing from there on.
