Overhead AMS early this evening and again later, on return trip, I heard on the radio that the airport was closed.

Any Info on this one?

If that was supposed to be -TSRA then I really don't want to know what +TSRA might look like. :}

Looks like Toronto Weather. Good to close the airport, otherwise AF might have tried to land anyway...

Bad joke, I admit...:oh:

Yesterday at about 1700 local we had 28036G56 TSRA as a cold front passed through what had been a 31C day dropping the temperature to 19C. No arrivals or departures for about 45 minutes. Lesson learnt?

Thank goodness I checked out 2 hours earlier and missed all that! And I think you're right - at times like that the AMS controllers are fantastic.

Was there on Friday between about 1400 and 1610 (BHX flight was 30 late) and there was no sign of any major problems bar the usual small selection of delays and cancellations. Handled very well, then.

What sort of time are we talking about? I might well have been a passenger on F100_Driver's flight...

We landed just before 1800z on Friday, having been cleared Sugol SPL, we decided to head north and dodge a big wall of red that seemed to be sitting just to the west of the airfield.

Ended up about 30 to 40 nm north of the airfield about to try for 18R when according to controllers something popped up on the 18R path, so we went all the way round at 4000 through mod to severe turbulence (in clear air) to rwy 27. Glad we didn't route to SPL and glad we didn't go around as that would have been interesting.

Good job by ATC though, appreciated that they let us get on with our tour of holland whilst dodging what we could.

Only time at AMS i have never seen any Easyjet a/c
