Anyone know of anywhere closer than Bodmin Airfield to the Royal Cornwall Showground at Wadebridge?

I tried the helicopter sitefinder but there is nothing close by.

Thanks,

A good one for Pat Malone from the HCGB.... he lives down that way!

(PM Him from on here)

You can land at the showground if you ask them nicely.

Check your PMs.

Try Roserrow Golf Club who have their own strip http://www.roserrow.co.uk/index.aspx

I also think that there is a private site near the Tesco at Padstow. I don't have the number with me today

Thanks Threeblades, I know Roserrow well - ideal for Polzeath, I just called the Royal Cornwall showground heliport and got PPR

"I also think that there is a private site near the Tesco at Padstow"

Perfect for a little improptu shopping! :ok:
I wouldn't mind finding out a little more about that site as my Mrs is quite fond of Rick Stein's cuisine.

Thanks for your input,
SB

Awww, Cornwall. My old stomping grounds. My first flight was from Truro to Bodmin.

Is the Truro strip still active as I know there were some planning issues a few years back.

Wonder if there's anyone in Cornwall that fancies a jobswap for a few months - I'm in an R44, Perth, Australia :}

No ? Ah well :)

Alternatively, you can go to his deli! :)

AlanM and Bell222, I would rather try Jamie Oliver's new place at Watergate bay, anyone know of any landing sites around there?

BTW, landed at the Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge yesterday and had a great day at the show - particularly memorable was human cannonball Dave "the bullet" Smith.

Thanks VeeAny!

Happy Days,

SB,
Theres a rather large landing site about 1000 metres due south of Jamie's Fifteen Watergate: RAF St Mawgan, aka Newquay Intercontinental Airport.

Peter,
I've been in there and got "handled" by a lady in a fluorescent tabard for the best part of £100 (usually I don't have to pay for ladies to handle me :E). In fact both times I have landed at Newquay (once helicopter, once fixed wing) have been weather diversions, the landing charge was waived on both occasions but I had a very expensive 25m van ride to the terminal as the handling was still charged.
I was thinking more along the lines of a free landing site within walking distance and spending the money on food.

If I get you a HLS you can spend the £100 on me!!!!

:) :D

Understood.
Between Padstow and Wadebridge is Hustyns Hotel, it used to be owned by a guy who had his own helicopter, so there might be a decent site attached, I do not know for sure.
Try the website at http://www.hustyns.com/ for their contact details.

Perhaps you could also call the Cornwall Air Ambulance folks (operated by Bond Air Services) based at RAF St Mawgan, they will be best informed on the local comings and goings, also RAF Operations there will have some info. Air Ambulance site http://www.helimed181.co.uk/

Enjoy your meal at 15s, book early though.

For Fission, you mentioned Truro, I pass it regularly and it is still active albeit with some planning issues in the past, NIMBYists I believe. A quick googling produced this if you need more info:
Clouds Aviation
