Can anyone recommend a quieter frequency in the SE UK on which a short series of tests of a 'newish' transponder could be checked without causing a nuisance on a busier frequency?

Thanks,

I think most of the places in the south are busy in their own way but perhaps you might try Northolt on 130.35. They have their moments too but I would imagine you are more likely to get a quieter time there than anywhere else I know with SSR.

On normal transponder checks......

If you're going to use Northolt, it would probably be better to use their ICF (Northolt Approach) 126.45 which is always monitored when the airfield is active.

130.35 is Northolt Director which, although it's usually monitored, is not always manned (especially at weekends & evenings).

Failing that you could always ask D&D nicely (call them before hand though - 01895 426510), they are very accommodating if not working emergency traffic.

.....However if you are wanting to check Mode S, then Northolt and D&D are not an option (as they don't have it)
