Did I miss an announcement?

Went for my class 2 renewal today and discovered it now lasts 5 years for those under 40* - previously this was the privilege of the under-30. And those in their 40's now need one every other year, rather than every year.

*but it expires when you are 42 regardless.

Some good news, for a change.

So...if I get my next Class 2 renewal at 38 does that mean it'll be valid until I'm 42? Or do I still need to go in at 40 to get the ECG and Peak Flow etc...?

Did my renewal this week and was told how lucky I was that if I did it after 1 June ... it s now within the scope of VAT and an extra 17.5% would have to be charged.

My AME is (not to put too fine a point on it) mildly miffed at having to become an unpaid tax collector.

And Gordon isn't even in charge yet ... heaven help us for all the other new taxes no doubt in the pipeleine.

Question; My class 2 Medical expires on Aug 12th this year. I will still be 39. However I will be 40 on Aug 21st a couple of weeks later. Does this mean I will have to renew on Aug 12th or is it now valid until I am 43?.

reads to me as follows, if you have a current medical and are say 37, 38 or 39, you will not need a renewal until you are 42, as the the maximum time at over 40 is 2 years.

Am I reading this correctly.

Yes, Englishal and the others, my AME explained to me (and the certificate confirms) that if you get a new medical when aged 38 or 39, it will be valid until your 42nd birthday. And the ECG is required at first medical post 40, not at age 40, as far as I understand it (need to look into this further, but I am sure the AME would have mentioned that, because we discussed ECGs at the start - his receptionist tried to book me in for one, I guess because most of her clients are over 40!).

sternone, the JARs go through amendments so theoretically it is EU-wide. However the state may not choose accepting the amendment straight away and and they may delay. AIUI the latter is currently happening with the UK and JAR FCL1 (personnel licencing) due to "consultation"

So does this mean that any current 2 year medicals for under 40s will automatically extend to 5 year or do we as I suspect have to fork out for another revalidation. I am 34 and my current 2 year officially expires in July but in my opinion it should last another 3 years.! :(
