CRI(SPA) COURSE FOR SINGLE-ENGINE CLASS RATING
An applicant for the issue of a CRI(SPA) rating for
single-engine aeroplanes shall have:

a. A valid SEP (Land), SET (Land), TMG Class
Rating or a Single-Pilot Single-Engine Type
Rating.

b. Completed at least 300 hours flight time as pilot
of aeroplanes.

c. Completed at least 30 hours as PIC on the
applicable type or class of aeroplane prior to
commencing the course.

d. Completed an approved course at an approved
FTO or TRTO of at least three hours flight
instruction on the aeroplane or a flight simulator
given by an instructor approved for this purpose
(see Appendix 2 to JAR-FCL 1.380); and 25
hours teaching and learning theoretical
knowledge training.

e. Passed the relevant elements of a FI Skill Test in
a single pilot, single engine aeroplane with a
suitably qualified FIE(A).

Good answer Beags except ... He asked if you can be a TRI with a PPL not if you can be a CRI!

Look at LASORS H4.1 and the answer is still yes but you need considerbly more experience (1500 hours on Multi Pilot Aeroplanes and 30 sectors on type in the past 12 months). While a CPL or ATPL is not specifically mentioned it's hard to see how one could meet these requirements without working as a professional pilot. I suppose it could be done if you spent a lot of cash!

I know the original question mentioned "type" Cessna Caravan which I suppose is a single pilot type but, isn't it also turbine powered and therefore needs a type rating? So, to teach on it do I need a TRI qualification with the pre-requisite 1500 hours on Multi Pilot Aeroplanes which sems irrelevant or do I need a CRI rating or ... :eek:

I think you'll find that a CRI is the minimum required to conduct instruction on the Cessan 208 Caravan - and your licence would be endorsed 'CessnaSET' for a SET Class Rating on all Cessna single engined turboprops. Diffrences training would be needed to use the 'CessnaSET' SET Class Rating on other Cessna turboprops.

You can be an examiner on a PPL on the back of having a CRI or FI.
