Re the Times today: Assuming similar routing and speed, what is the expected flight time saved by omitting the Singapore intermediate stop?

Article said something like 17 hours.

Looks like they'll no longer be crowing about 4 engines being better than 2 anymore then.

I saw the 17 hours and that's what made me wonder. Having used Singapore Airlines a few times, the eastbound flight times are roughly 12.5 hrs and 5.5 resp. All a bit rough and ready, but surely Changi holds, IAP, taxi , park, open doors plus all the take-off stuff, climb to cruise etc to be worth a bit more than an hour saving?

There are a total of 6 starter/generators on the 787. Four 250KVA units are engine driven and the APU turns two 225KVA units. There is a RAT, but it is for center system hydraulics only.

The FAA made new rule changes regarding ETOPS in January of this year. I will have to check to see if out of the box approval is part of the new rules. I do know that the 787 will have 180min ETOPS equipment and systems in all base models.

Just out of interest Emirates 777-300ER are, so I believe, running 207 mins ETOPS... Don't know how much time those GE's had before that was granted:confused:

Didn't the first B777, the one delivered to United come with 180min ETOPS??
