md-100,

Commands in BA are done in accordance with seniority for those eligible to hold a command (ie. good performance in Base Checks and Line Checks and an hours requirement.)

The hours requirement is:
3500 hours in a Flight Crew operating capacity of which 2500 hours must be as pilot-in-command or co-pilot on civilian public transport aircraft greater than 12.5 tonnes, or military equivalent.
This must include one of the following:
i) 3 years on a British Airways' aircraft with at least 1500 hours as co-pilot on a British Airways' aircraft.
ii) 1 year on British Airways' aircraft with at least 2000 hours as pilot-in-command on civil jet transport of 25 tonnes or greater.
iii) 2000 hours as pilot-in-command on civil jet transport of 25 tonnes or greater.
iv) 1000 hours as pilot-in-command on type.

Seniority permitting, 2,500 total time and 1,000 Hrs. on turbine engine aircraft. May and often has been waived depending on the immediate needs of the company.
