Can anybody explain why Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield approach is provided by Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

I'm struggling to find the logic to this!

Thanks

Why is it a problem ?
Many radar units are not at the location of the airport. It is of course down to economics and its cheaper than providing a separate approach unit at Doncaster.

Peel Airports own both Liverpool John Lennon and Doncaster Sheffield Airports. My understanding is that Peel already have controllers in Liverpool so it is cheaper to use them rather than controllers at DSA. A bit of an unusual situation but understandable.

So why do they insist that the DSA controllers use the 'head in a bucket' quality comms that the Mil insist on, when LPL comms are up to scratch?

You might as well use two yoghurt pots and a loooong piece of string. :}

Could it be the transmitter site is at DSA. Much like the Mil guys are well away from the area they are transmitting from.
