Don't just read the overview but have a look at the pdf version which includes pictures of the fire damage: http://www.aaib.gov.uk/cms_resources/S2-2007%20N786UA.pdf

Thankfully this happend on the ground and not over the the middle of North Atlantic.:D :D

If this fire had started over the ocean we may have been looking at another Swissair 111.:(

The pictures in the report are quite impressive, its seems the fire was big enough when the crew noticed it going by those scorch marks.

Interesting reading..
The Flight Data Recorder (FDR) revealed that 40 seconds after both engines had stabilised at ground idle, the smoke detector inside the Main Equipment Centre (MEC)1 detected smoke.
and
The flight crew selected the EICAS ‘ELEC AC BUS R’ irregular checklist and completed the first action of selecting the right generator control switch to OFF and then to ON again. About two and a half minutes after the electrical failure they became aware of a faint electrical burning smell and shortly afterwards...
I'm not a pilot but...
It sounds like the FDR knew there was a smoke/fire issue several mins before the crew. eg the crew got "failure" warning lights not "smoke/fire" warning lights. Doesn't the smoke detector trigger something more attention grabbing a than a failure indicator?
