Did anyone else happen to notice the Super Connie disappear from saturday afternoons aerial displays for a while and return with LH inboard engine shut down and feathered?

I was a bit dissapointed it didnt get to do a few fly-bys :*

No that thread goes on about the sustainability of it I just wondered if every one thought the AIRSHOW was OK this time. (could not believe it was two years ago this question asked) seemed a bit better but did not make Friday night and was it OK?

I ventured over to AV on the saturday, to have a bit of alook around.

IMHO, I think its about time there be something different to look at. Have been to three now, and most of the aircraft present have been there before. Don't get me wrong, the fighter jocks put on a great show, and the aeros are good too, but would prefer to see something new and different there next time.

How about all the RAAF FA18s parked out the back do a formation show, or the C130 drop some stuff out the back using the parachute drogue system?? I dont know, something new - something we havent seen before.

But having said that, good day had by all, except it was bloody cold!!

I went Sunday and have similar comments to PS2 but that being said it was still pretty good and pretty much all re-occurring Airshows suffer from the same repeatedness. Not sure how many were there but it seemed like a couple of hundred thousand and it was *very* busy.

A few Jetstar arrivals and departures broke it up a little and it was good to see the Q747 takoff in the middle of the show being so close to it on the crowd line. I was a little disappointed that it didn't come back for a high speed fly-by.

That mediaum Italian freighter military thing was the most impressive thing I've seen for a while. A bit smaller than a Herc, Herc looking with 2 engines and it was doing barrel rolls and wingovers - quite impressive!

I'm still trying to work out what the advertised surprise was?:}

I went there and I have no idea!

Perhaps because they advertised that parking was $10 and when you got there it was free? (for those that didn't get to fly)

How about all the RAAF FA18s parked out the back do a formation show, Erm, 4 of them did. or the C130 drop some stuff out the back using the parachute drogue system?? Agree that would be nifty. Saw a series of pictures at an airshow at Richmond a while ago depicting what has gone wrong in the past with such drops, not sure they could do it close enuf to the crowd line to make it interesting.

Looks like we could be buying some of those "Italian freighter military things"

I'm sure they chucked stuff out of a Herc at the last Avalon show.

How about Little Johnny Howard exiting an airborne herc yelling "fire, fire!!!!!!!"...........................................without a parachute.

A couple of picks from Sunday, nothing too exciting I'm afraid.

I do wonder what WA police are doing with that nice rig though!

I think the PC12 was a confiscated aircraft....

The N.T. Police also have one of those. There is a legitimate need for them to have something like that. (if the WA Police airwing have got themselves sorted out. Their record with the 310 was not good)
There is a huge area out there, and many nasty things happen way outback.
I once did a medivac and was told when en route that the patent and the nurse were barricaded inside the clinic, and people were on the roof, trying to get in. The patient had been stabbed, but he had killed the other man. The police had been called, but would take four hours to get there. :*

NT Police have got two PC12's, one in Darwin and the other in YBAS.
WA Police have got two, one in Jandakot and the other in Karratha.
The one at Avalon was the one from Karratha. It's got an in-flight opening door - first of it's type in the world.
Both the WA ones were purchased new.

Dawn,

So is the paratroop door certified then? I knew they had plans but seems quick.

I'd imagine the WA police are trying mightily to stop it from getting scratched. I can imagine the reaction landing at some of the wilder outback destinations.

Connie's gotta be one of the sexiest looking aeroplanes around!

Just nothing else in the same league except Concord!

The yank commentary to the F15 display was an absolute embarrasment though. Somebody needs to tell the git he sounds like a right d!ckhead.

Owen Stanley,
couldn't agree more. A group of us standing near a speaker listening to that load of self adulating drivel looked at each other and shook our head is disbelief. But at least the F15 flying display was awesome to watch.:ok:

The yank commentary to the F15 display was an absolute embarrasment though. I got the feeling that if I nodded my head at any point I'd own a F-15 and a set of steak knives...

I thought the F-15 demo was great, I haven't seen that many people laughing simultaneously for a long time! :} :} :} :}

Sounded like he watched far too many G.I.Joe adverts when he was young, the only thing missing was the 'Team America' theme song on their soundtrack :E :E

Note that it was a tape recording for US airshow audiences, so patriotic it was embarrasing :\

Also note that 2 F-22 Raptors were due down but cancelled by the organizers at the last minute...rumour is they didn't want F-22s showing up the Surper-Bugs now that the RAAF have purchased 24 of em'. Don't quote me on that one however....

The 4-ship FA-18 formation was good, the F-111 was great (as always) and the Italian Spartan was very impressive for an aircraft of that size, but I agree with above comments that something different is needed.

Aum.. it is not prerecorded. At the end of the F15 display on Sunday the over enthusiastic septic thanked 'Jill from BJ Oreilys in Southbank' :}

THREE exhaust ports/donk for Connie, 3 turbochargers, but I do agree about the night departures, spekky!! Petrol head heaven.
And I DID get some pics of the departures, all you can see is a LOT of flame.

That being the case I stand corrected :\ however I was told by some of the trade-day regulars that it was recorded. Either way I found it a great laugh, I doubt they'll ask him back in future though :}

The Airservices people involved with the airshow are interested in feedback from anyone who flew in, specifically comments on the AIP SUP, flight path documents on the airshow website (link below still works), the VFR arrival procedures and holding areas for Barwon Prison, Little River Mouth & Clifton Springs, ATC etc.

http://www.airshow.net.au/airshow2007/flying-in/approach-photos.html

Their AIS people at [email protected] have passed on some comments received to the relevant people.

The in-flight opening cargo door on the PC12 is certified - but has not been used in anger yet , but is certified for use up to FL250. With the cyclone season up north it may be used in the event of a supply drop / SAR requirement. Still tweeking the SOP's regarding it's use :ok:

Granted the Super Bug is a good bit of kit, but the F111 and F15 still put on a better show. I was hoping the F22s would make an appearance since they were in the region but I was not surprised when they didn’t and the same show from the 1990s was put on. It was still ok, but not worth the time (traffic/travel) and money (entry/accommodation).

Imagine an Airshow where the latest Sukhoi and Raptor do a fly-off. Throw in an A380 demo, the Blue angels or thunder bitds and a few VLJs and it might be worth going to another.

I have to mention that the ADF put on an impressive show with the equipment they currently operate. The flying standard displayed indicated that they are still the world leaders. Made me very proud.

Re the commentary - It’s going to be a looooong stint in Iraq if the yanks project that arrogance to the locals.

What about Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier for the 60th anniversary, whilst inverted in the AC500 piloted by Bob Hoover with both donks in feather and Dean Schafer doing his wing walk! Now that was something else !................ or was i bored frozen witless and at the Bar too long!!

Must have missed the 4-ship FA18 fly past. Probably inside chatting up the Airbus gals, and getting my hands on as many freebys as i could.

Any hoo, am in agreeance about the Blue Angels. They are just something else!! Or even the Thunderbirds with their explosive ejector seats would be great to witness.

But the Spartan was amazing! :D Sitting there and thinking it was just another Herc doing a coupla slow and fast fly-bys. . . . but then she rolls, and does some wingovers. Looked like the italian boys were having fun!! Or maybe a little too much pizza and wine the night before?!
