Would welcome any information on the nearest strip to Cowes that anyone might be aware of. I am aware of Sandown/Bembridge but need to get closer.

Thanks

You could fit floats and land in the marina but I think that is the only way!

There is a very nice private strip mid way between Cowes and Bembridge.

I was taken there by friends last year with a view to giving it a try but have not yet done so. It looked in very good condition and very useable.

I havent got any contact details though I am afraid but if you think it would be any help I can try and get a phone number. What length do you need?

Mind you as you probably know it is really easy to get a taxi at Bembridge (a call on the radio in bound works) and Cowes is not that far.

"BINSTEAD:There is a private airstrip reported to be at approx 50 43 02N/01 21 54W,about 1 mile SE of Fishbourne,at Puck House Farm.Runway 18/36 Grass"
from http://daveg4otu.tripod.com/iowweb/iowm.html#

Very easily seen on Google Earth at 50 43 18 50N, 1 12 17 92 W - I think the co-ords above have transposed the W component to 01 21 from 01 12.

HoHo!

How do you think you're going to get back after a weekend of riotous puking all over the Solent?:E

Or is your plan to avoid being sick during the trip over from Northarbour and just join them for the evening festivities?

Hi Vectis Lady

Flew there in a STOL PFA a/c; no probs. No obstacles at the ends but the trees are quite close to the side of the 18 t/h. The grass is well drained. Do check the length carefully. Details in Lockyears and (I think) AFE. Dont overfly Osborne house. The power line under the 36 appr has been submerged. The owner, or his son? has an RV there.

I believe no landing fee is required, so I always bear in mind a comment by an owner of a similar strip that the quality of the 'thank-you' bottle of wine generally equates to the quality of the landing.

If you have a really STOL STOL then the owner at Thorness bay was happy for me to land there, but it cant be much more than 200m; CH701 or flexwings only I would have thought. 'Fraid I dont have his number. I did a miss and went to Binstead.
