I tried the demo and it looks and feels good, quite indepth software but Its probably been built around FARs...just curious to see if anyone actually uses it and if they like it?

I use Safelog, does everything I need as a PPL.

Skylog Pro for the last six years. Wouldn't be without it. The £70 outlay was well worth the time saving in laboriously updating a paper logbook.

I use the logbook pro software, I like it, also have the pda version on my phone so I can enter flights as I do them and then sync it with the main version on the pc every so often, it also has some good features like analyser which tells you straight away how current you are, day, night, SEP, MEP etc, aslo keeps track of your ratings and medical, also you can print it out in various formats

fantastic mcgoo. There is nothing in flying that this guy does not know about, why he is not a moderator I dont know:ok:
Only problem is what will happen if you have ur phone nicked? not only will you loose the numbers of all u mates, but all your recent flying as well.

Why not try BaboonLog, (as used at Air Baboon and Badoon Flight Training), simply an excel spread sheet set up to record and add up hours in the same way as any logbook software. It can do anything that can be done by logbook pro.. If anyone wants it pm me. I do charge a small fee though, 10 bananas, no less.

if the phone gets nicked so what, like I said it gets synced with the pc, numbers are backed up on an old phone, not rocket science, stop smoking the drugs and little things like that become clear, instead of playing made up airlines !:E

yeh,but what happens if u loose ur phone before it has been synced? eh? hadnt thought of that one had u! Drugs, me? the only thing baboon boy smokes is dried banana skins.
;)

As I have always said, anyone who spends 70 quid on logbook software has been taken to the cleaners. Excel does the same job perfectly.

Oh and by the way, Air Baboon is not a made up airline. Check out our website for proof. www.flybaboo.com (http://www.flybaboo.com).

Baboon -

If you lose your phone before you've had chance to sync it, it's exactly the same as losing your paper logbook before you have chance to enter it on the computer, or losing your laptop/cd/memory stick before you have chance to put it in your paper book, isn't it?

Having said that, I spent a day creating an excel spreadsheet and it works a dream!

I bought SkyLog Pro, unfortunately. As soon as I have more time I will transfer to something better. Its not worth the money and is years out of date in terms of the style of its GUI.

It also seems to have very limited import/export, the pocket PC "conduit" is far from straightforward to setup (and it doesn't leave your log data on the pocket pc) the reports are inflexible, the data entry is clunky, I could go on...

Basically its little more than a very rudimentary database application, absoultely no sophistication about it.

It would cost me more to sit about all day programming Excel than it has done to buy Logbook Pro.

Search on 'Electronic Logbook' comes up with this. I've just started using it and found it simple and easy to use. Best of all it's free, so I can spend more on flying!

Regards,

Cricket.

Are these sheets available to download from anywhere? Posting 10 bananas wouldn't really work...!

I've recently bought skylog pro and am very happy with it, can easily update once a week and it takes a few mins for 10-20 sectors. Think it's a nice bit of kit, doesn't look that flashy but don't really care to much about that...so yeah all in all, pretty happy with it...

I have just had a look at this and it is probably fine for some, but certainly for someone flying professionally it is too restrictive, Won't let me put in MEJ for example and only has space for about 15 aircraft, which for even a PPL with some time under his belt I would have thought could be a bit limiting.:(

Mcgoo, how much do you claim to earn per hour? It would only take that time to programme an excel spread sheet. Ur telling me you earn 70quid per hour? I do not beleive it, even for a man of your calibre.

And your current plan regarding the mobile phone system is in my opinion still a disaster waiting to happen..

if anybody wants a copy of "BaboonLog" excel spread sheet they can PM me, so long as I get my 10 bananas, which can be sent to:-

Baboon Boy,
Ngorongoro Baboon Troop,
Ngorongoro Conservation Area,
Tanzania.

Baboon boy, what I earn an hour is neither your concern or business.

Also i'd be very surprised if you can program Excel in one hour to do everything that Logbook Pro does, if so congratulations, new business on the cards!

Thanks for your concerns about my current system but it is no more risky than having a paper logbook stolen or lost, so hardly a disaster if the phone goes missing because I could update my records from the paper logbook or vice-versa.

using your same theory what would happen then if someone broke into your house and stole your PC??, disaster waiting to happen?

Mcgoo, how I love our little arguments.
How many people are confronted by muggers each year who say "give me your flying logbook or else"? None, a flying logbook is worthless to anyone else apart from the owner. How many say "hand over your mobile phone" Many.

Personally I use my excell spread sheet and a paper logbook, so that if one gets nicked/ lost I will still have a record of all my hours. I think that is the best system.
What will Mcgoo do if on the way home from flying he is mugged at gun point for his mobile and then that evening his computer crashes and looses all data due to a virus it has picked up through his looking at internet pornography sites? All of Mcgoos hard earned flying down the drain!

Quoute Mcgoo: "Also i'd be very surprised if you can program Excel in one hour to do everything that Logbook Pro does, if so congratulations, new business on the cards!"

So what exactly does Logbook Pro do then that is so special? Excel can be programmed to record and tot up hours in different ways, eg night hours, multi crew hours, mep hours, hours on different types etc in a matter of minutes. What more would you want a logbook to do?

I accept that some people might not have excel, however it can be downloaded for free from numerous places.

I have still not had any requests for BaboonLog, so I am cutting the price to 5 bananas.

mcgoo

baboon boy, maybe the drugs are making you a little paranoid, a logbook can still be stolen, in a bag from a car, lost, people may have no purpose stealing a logbook but if they steal a flight bag for the headset, flight computer, gps theres a good chance the logbook will be in there.

you must live in a rough area, i've never been mugged or even had a mugging attempt but I suppose i'm a bit on the large side for that also I still keep a paper logbook so my system only differs from yours by use of the phone.

As for Logbook Pro you already must know what it can do as you claim to have made something exactly the same, although I can't see the CEO of Logbook Pro calling an emergency shareholders meeting anytime soon.

Baboon Boy
17th Mar 2007, 13:25
Mcgoo, why do you feel the need to resort to accusing me of having a drug problem? I have no more of a drug problem than you do.

It is a well known fact that mobile phones are one of the most frequently stolen items by thieves. And yes, where I live moblile phone snatchings are common, as they are in most areas of the country. Where do you live? Probably not in the real world, but in "Mgoo's world" of planes, trainspotting, computers, microsoft flight simulator, PPRUNE and logbook software. You should get out more:= .

And do please enlighten me, what does logbook pro do apart from adding up hours?
The reason why Logbook Pro ltd are not calling emergency shareholders meetings is that there are enough fools out there who do not realise that excel can do exactly the same.

mcgoo
17th Mar 2007, 18:58
baboon boy, I havn't resorted to anything, you started on my back first with your tedious moderator garbage and chipping away at every post I make and now you seem to have more assumptions of "trainspotting, computers, flight simulator, planes, pprune and logbook software", well I don't know anything about trains, i'm not into computers, I don't own a flight sim, and planes, pprune and logbook software are pretty obvious seeing as i'm a pilot, a logbook is a requirement and this is an aviation website, not sure where your going with all this.

You on the other hand are a self confessed drug user, you posted it yourself, you also claim to be a pilot, what a winning combination, so where your claims are based on speculation, mine are based on your own posts, wheres the issue?

anyway back on topic, you claimed that excel can do anything that logbook pro can, now your asking me what it does, look at the website, you will find a full description there!

mobile phones might be a common snatched item but i keep mine in my pocket and i'm 6'5" and just over 18 stone so I don't tend to attract muggers.

now if you want to do any further sniping do it by pm rather than hijack other peoples threads, if you have a real problem i'll give you my contact details, in the meantime go out and get laid or something!
