NEED HELP!!! Interview process begins soon!!

Hello! this is my first post!!

I've got an interview at the beginning of nxt month down in London. I've noticed that the interview sticky hasnt been updated in a couple of yrs, so I have absolutely no idea how update to date it is.

So if someone could give me a hand and answer a few questions i've got that would be absolutely fantastic!!

1) Is wearing a suit a good idea?

2) What plane data is the most important to memorise..... surely they cant expect everything to be perfect......can they?

3) What percentage of applicants get through?

4) Assuming I pass Stage 1, how long is it before I get to attempt Stage 2?

5) What is the rough starting pay? and at what stage in the interview process will NATS start reimbursing expenses?

6) I currently am living in Southampton..... Assuming I get offered a position, will I more than likely be based in the south, or is there quite a high chance of me being posted somewhere else in the country?

I think that for the moemnt that's it for now..... No doubt i'll have more questions.... it would be nice to see some more uptodate links!!!

I can't answer all your questions but I'll have a shot.

1) Yes, I'd consider a suit absolutely necessary. You are trying to convey a professional image, you'll not do that in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.

2) I doubt you'll be expected to know the data inside out but any information they have sent you is fair game for questioning. Try your best to learn it all because if you get through, you'll have to learn it all for the college anyway! It's been a few years since I had my interview but I was asked things like typical cruising levels, speeds, passenger capacity, type of engines etc. They also showed me pictures of aircraft which I had to identify and give some info on.

3) I'm not too sure. With bigger courses than before (I believe up to 60 on a course now:eek: ) I suppose the chance of getting to the college will be a bit better than usual.

4)It depends. The process is much quicker now so could be anything from a week to a month.

5) I think the starting pay is £10k all in.

6) If you do area or approach you will most likely get posted to Swanwick but the other centres are a possibility. If you get aerodrome it'll most likely be one of the London airports but could be anywhere.

Chances of getting on the course are the same as always, we are still interviewing to the same standard. Just because there are more places on the course doesn't mean that standards go down, just that we have to interview more candidates!

If you've got a lot of free time, and the dates match up, you could start a course less than two months after applying.

I think it works out that around 3% of applicants start a course.

1) For the first stage it doesn't matter, your literally a number, you just sit the tests so you don't have to dress up, but at mine most people went relatively smart.

2) Its probably random, just have an appreciation for them if you don't want to learn them all.. they weren't too specific, like which of the following 4 planes would you expect to fly to the far east from england..

3) No idea I'm sure someone from HR threw around a figure of about 3-5% to me once?

4) Took me 16 days to find out first stage result, then you book your second stage online much like the first, you could probably book a 2nd stage for the week after you get your results if you had no commitments.

5) Theres a pdf on the NATS website under whats in it for me > terms and conditions > salary .. 10k first years training though.. and they reimburse stage 2, 3 and the medical.

6) Your meant to be able to go anywhere, but I think you have a bit of influence.. and seeing as most of them are down there your chances would probably be good.

The links in the sticky thread are still good, they've just changed the whole process around a little bit ..
