I know it is not needed to fly under JAA...but would you think it would be better to have one? Specific like a Aviation SCience major, or just something generic?

What do you think about this subject?

Please let me know,

Thanks

Well obviously majoring in Aviation Science or another aviation related field would allow you to specialise and be a little more knowlegable than a Psychology major for example, on aviation-specific topics such as aircraft systems, meteorology and so on. Many argue that it is wise to earn a degree in something else, and then move on to earn your flight ratings.

My advice would be to pursue a degree such as the one you specified, if your long term goals include flying for one of the majors. What many fail to realise, is that the main reason why a college degree (4-year preferably) is now required by the majority of airlines, is because it shows that you as an individual have the stamina and dedication that it takes to achieve such a challenging goal. Who else would they rather have on board than someone exhibiting such characteristics:ok: !?

Anyway Danny that's pretty much my two cents worth. I have taken the university route myself, and have no regrets;) . Tough work, but it pays off in the end. Hope I have helped some what.

Good Luck!!!!

As much as i agree that it would be of benefit... i cant say that it is a requirement in many airlines other then the USA....

Not in Aus, or Europe for that matter!

My own life-time experience is to get flying as soon as possible, get aviation employment as young as possible, and then get your degrees by the truck load in the following years with much layover spare time etc.

It worked for me, and I got the "Seniority Jump" on all the others that were still sweating over their degrees whilst I was earning a living as a pilot.

SOME airlines might require a degree, and that would make a difference to my argument.

To be sure, get a college degree so that you will achieve a higher reality level and better comprehend that the flying business has become "blue collar" job; . . . that you'll be nothing more than a bus or truck driver [with wings]. That's it.
