Was wondering if anyone has been into Bembridge lately, thinking of going there for lunch next week. Are there any good pubs locally on foot.

The Crab & Lobster springs to mind. I don't know if its walkable, but the taxi only takes 5 mins.
Propeller Inn is on the southern perimeter. From the tower you can walk there within the airfield boundary. Not bad.
I have known it closed in winter so best check first.

I have walked many times to the Crab & Lobster, but only when I wanted a good coastal hike, about 45mins.

MikeJ is correct. If you want to walk, and it is a very pleasant walk, out the main "gates" at Bembridge, and through the caravan park you fly over on the westerly approach. The walk is along the beach and you cant get around at high tide. You use to be able to follow the cliff top coastal path but that is now in the sea(!) and I dont think has be repaired. There is only a very short section which is tidal and you can scramble around at any state - but it is a scramble.
Taxi is about 5 minutes. The very nice people at Bembridge will even telephone for one in advance if you ask them on the radio in bound.
In any crosswind above 15 knots the approach is a little more interesting than most over the cliffs and caravan park.

Was over there in November: Cliff top walk perfectly OK then, maybe summat's changed since then. Walk through the Caravan Park and along the cliffs took us about 35 minutes with a 4 and 6 yr old in tow. Food is pretty good!

The Propeller Inn was closed when I last visited Bembridge in early December.....

I can vouch for the Crab & Lobster. Good seafood, a nice view and well placed for a stroll along the shore.
The Propeller Inn is OK if you don't have time to stray far from the airfield, but it's more of an ordinary pub with food.

I have walked it, but it takes a while and for part of the way you have to walk in the road as there is no footpath, so the short taxi ride is probably a better bet.

"Ye Olde Village Inn" in Bembridge high street does excellent roast dinners :ok:

The Crab & L is at the extreme right of the pic.
Made me remember another pub, nearer than the Crab & L.
I can't remember the name, but its on the top of Culver Down (with the white cliffs in the foreground) right by the big monument so visible from the airfield, and in the pic.
Bit of an uphill walk.

The "Culver Haven" ............ :ok:
