Two Saturdays ago I flew from Newcastle to Gatwick on a BA 737. I noticed that we were parked facing away from the terminal, parallel to a BA A320. After engine start we taxied straight out with no assistance. As a curious PPLer, I though all the stands at Newcastle were nose in, and as it was pitch black outside I'm still none the wiser. Any resident Geordies shed some light on which stand this was?

Was it windy?

Reverserunlocked - it was due to strong winds either present or forecast over night. It's been quite a regular occurrence over the past few weeks to to park the aircraft into wind to prevent them from weather cocking.

Ah yes, that'll be it. http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/EGNT/2007/1/20/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA
a quick look at this at takeoff time (6.30am) gives winds around 35mph gusting up to 50mph.

In fact the takeoff was the best fun I've had in ages, only about 25 pax in a 737-500 and with that wind down the runway we were up in seconds!
