Why isnt simultanious runway operation allowed,purely out of interest.

Because they're too close together, and when the northern strip is in use, taxiing options are reduced.
Van - in fact, there is only 1 runway available at any time. Unless............no, I won't go there:)

Reqs 1000m between runways to be operated independantly
760 metres is the minimum distance for simultaneous ops.
