Hi, thinking of sticking my old man on a SAA flight
in June to The States (JFK). It's the only direct to NY at the mo
so was wondering what the routes service was like for cattle class?
Anyother gen you would like to post positive or negative
would be welcome!

Cheers :ok:

Check out seatguru.com to find your old man the best seat in the house (apart from the ones up front that is) and airlinequality.com for Skytrax ratings.

To JFK it would most likely be a A340-300

SA203 JHB-DKR-JFK A343 DLY FREQ.

SAA use A340-600s to DC, and A340-300s to NYC. They are actually much, much better to fly on nowadays - the airline has pulled out a couple of rows of seats in economy and increased the seat pitch to 33inches (from 31inches). At the mo, Delta offer 31 - 32 inches. One of the positive spin offs of reducing weight by removing seats is that the return flights (US - SA) can now go non-stop and SAA are planning on implementing this soon. So, nonstop and more legroom should make the whole experience a lot better than going via Europe ;)

Check out.. airlinequality.com for Skytrax ratings.

Doesn't Skytrax just puff airlines who bung them as consultants? Looking at their site you'd never guess that their 2006 Airline of the Year Award was once again pitching marquees at Heathrow.
