Is there any further news on what the next 'O' date is for the new tower?

Not yet! Will it end with a 7 or an 8  ?

Happy New Year!

Won't be much, probably just an almost unnoticeably short glitch..... like the move to Swanwick!

Tell you what - I would NOT like to be up there in these wind conditions. I've been in the present tower with 70+ kts blowing and that frightened me to death - and that's a substantial building!

HNY to everyone at Heathrow Tower...

Last I heard, which was at the start of December, is that the move will be around January 13th, and there will be flow reductions for a week or two.
Someone closer to the Tower may well have more up to date information than me!!

That date was cancelled about a fortnight ago. We're now waiting with baited breath for a new 'O' date to be announced.

As i understand it, the training has still to be completed which could take quite some time.

Heard there was an unresolved issue about the Tower staff not having a car park near their place of work as in the existing Tower. If true would this be a problem as many other LHR staff have to park a long way from their place of work?

It might be an 'issue', but there are a great deal of 'issues', none of which would delay an O date.
ATCO training was not complete. That was the biggie.

edit to add: ..........Through no fault of the Training Dept! The goalposts kept changing and the timescale was always too tight.:}

I bet BAA can't wait to put a car park or some shops on the old tower site!!

Lets hope they keep the old tower building in some shape or form!

Isn't it going to stay operational so that when proper CAT 1 conditions exist everyone can move back into it so that they are not in the clouds!

No

When we move out, that's it.

That's what we've been told.

Nop! Been in the old one since 0700 - had my doubts about the glass panels remaining in place. Nasty day - 12 go-arounds this morning.

Cheers!

Last night the emergency exit doors kept blowing open.

Kept waking me up......errr, I mean disturbing my ever-watchful protective gaze over the airport.....:O

Those were due to a certain Glaswegian losing his bottle in the hot seat.
Kids eh?

Nope...that happened from 1300 onwards!!!:} But I think you'll find, I only sent one around due to some dubious spacing from our illustrious colleagues in the big dark room in West Drayton!!!;) The rest did it themselves!!!:yuk:

Do I not like tall , flimsy buildings in 80 mph winds! A tels engineer was working and said it moved so much he could not get his screw driver to stay in the screw!:bored:

Because the new tower is airside to get to it you have to go through the new security and I believe there are concerns about long delays at watch change-overs. Suppose everyone will just have to get out of bed an hour earlier :bored:

Especially as the runway might have been clear anyways...
