'Reach' Engine Fire in Hold by Sigonella

[Gattaca]

18.12.06 At around 0730z a 'Reach' freighter (US Airforce Cargo Plane in disuise or subcontracted) experienced an Engine Fire on Engine 2 .
RVR in sigonella was around 150m way below minima required (around 1200m).
LICC was experiencing similiar conditions RVR RWY26 <150m.
They decided to try a GCA with 3 Engines at Sigonella however this was followed by a 3 engine Goaround and an alternative Missed approach due to reduced performance on climb out and high terrain .Volcanic Ash also was present in the area FL 80.This 'Reach' then decided to fly to LIRN/Naples.
Anybody has any additional news?

A "Reach" callsign is hardly a disguise. It immediately identifies the aircraft as one being operated by the USAF's Air Mobility Command, whose motto is, "Global Reach for America." It is analagous to the callsign "Ascot" which identifies to all and sundry that the airplane calling is an RAF Herc.

Seemed to recall a civil US flagged aircraft using a bogus reach callsign being forced to land in India not so long back....some people saying they were using it to avoid paying airways charges .....

Civil Reserve Air Fleet flying can also use the "Reach" callsign. i.e., "Reach 777," worn by a Continental 772.
