Can anybody give the definitive on the following ?
Taking off today with stiff x-wind , in LNAV , established drift to maintain track , advised by ATC to maintain Runway heading.........some confusion on flight deck as to whether to maintain current heading ( ie runway 'track' / centreline) or to engage 'HDG SEL' and select runway heading and now track about 12 degrees right of runway centreline ?
Thanks.

It's been talked about here ad nauseum, but it is very simple... When issued Heading, that is exactly what it is... Don't try to read anything into it. Runway heading is just that, hit heading select and go with that, or just hold what you have if you have nothing fancy <G>...

Runway Heading means "Runway Heading". Select HDG and deselect LNAV. ATC is aware that the aircraft will drift due to cross-wind and they expect you to fly the magnetic heading.

But, when you calculate ATOGS for obstacle clearance it is determined +/- 10 degrees of the runway centerline, so, if there is no special single engine deprature procedure make sure you track the runway centerline until a safe altitude.

Thanks for that , well ,the ones that replied honestly. Happy to say I did go with the Hdg Sel option. Not so happy that a Moderator ,or should I say Immoderator in this case , should be so smarmy. I had a 14 hour day yesterday and only had the energy to post my request before crashing out , not enough in the tank to start searching etc .
C'mon Mike , not all of us are aces ( or think we are ) . I will not hasten to ask any more questions which offend you in the future.Pity really , as I thought these forums were for our benefit . Poor CRM old chap.

To precis it all (still working hard I see:ok:), runway heading means maintain the heading of the runway. Best check with your country's rules to be safe.

'RM' stands for 'Resource management'. If you are concerned about getting your beauty sleep (and at your age you should be:D), 'search' to find the first reference took around 25 seconds, which is probably a lot less than your post?

I'll pass your views on the graphic to 'Tightslot'.:)
