Question - Can an ATP instruct a pilot with a commercial license towards a type rating in a large (over 12,500) aircraft like he can if it was towards an ATP type rating in the same aircraft?

It makes no difference if the person being taught has an ATPL or CPL/IR so long as the person doing the teaching is a TRI/TRE and is doing the teaching inconjunction with an approved course for a TR training organisation... the Type rating is the same for either licence type.

LKM - I take it that you are answering from a JAA viewpoint. A moment's thought will reveal that Dublin, Pennsylvania is not in the JAA and, consequently, that your response is not relevant to Vespin's query. Hopefully, someone more versed in FARs will be able to supply the correct answer.
