View Full Version : FI(R) using my own aircraft?

Hopefully a swift answer relating to insurance or the like but is there any reason why I can't use my own aircraft for the flying aspects of the FI(R)? (I have a TB-10 which I believe could be used for most serials)

It would seem like an obvious way to bring the basic cost down.

Hi there, i believe it will need to be on a Public Transport CofA for the purposes of the training. Im not sure if it needs to be approved seperately for test like aircraft used for CPL and IR test's have to be.

Sorry to say it but you may have to trawl through LASORS for the answer!!
Out of interest, the C152 i did my FI course on was not owned by the FTO, but leased in from a Privateer, so i can't initially see a reason why not

Its up to the FTO. They will need to add it to their approval which means the CAA have to check its suitability. It will need to have a CMR and be maintained to PT standards. PT Cof A ceased to exist 2 years ago.

You have TWO issues here.

1. Yes you can use your own a/c IF it is publci transport CofA. If private cat or PFA (or whatever the equivilent is these days) then nope you cant.
2. You MUST be supervised by an FI, AND work under and RF that has registered the FIs who supervise you as supervising FIs. (SRG1111 form required to the CAA).

The whole point of FI(R) is that you cannot just set-up your own school without first obtaining the required experience. And believe me...when I look at myself now compared with my FI(R) days....wow...I thought I knew a fair bit...but crumbs..how much did I not know - and Im not talking about flying per se...but more about teaching.

I think the intent is to conduct the flying syllabus of the FI(R) course on the a/c not actually offer instruction.

Whopity is correct to the best of my knowledge.

Standards Doc 37 Para 9: formerly CAP682 Part 6 Para 19 apply to the use of aircraft on a FI(R) Course.
