2) How does range change with headwind and why

I believe that LRC does not change with wind whereas Max range or Cost Index 0 does change with wind. Basically when flying into a headwind the Speed increases and with a tailwind the speed decreases. The FMC on a Boeing calculates this automatically. Old Smokey did a good piece on this a while ago which was a great help in my study for a certain Hong Kong based airline.

Who is old smokey?..you must be young here...just do a search by the user, and you'll be amazed..he's one of the best professionals i've ever 'met' ...unfortunately not knowing him in real life ,yet (I hope)..
