Our company (Virgin Blue - Australia) has just ordered the Embraer 170 and 190.

Any Canadian pilots on this type care to comment on its qualities? Any opinions much appreciated.

If you took a CRJ and an A320 and mated them, their child would be an EMB170 or 190.:D
If you are a pilot who likes new technology, this aircraft is going to make your day-to-day flying life easier.:D
Much nicer than a B737NG in terms of what it can do for pilot workload and presentation. Comfort. Overall look and convenience of the cockpit layout.
Lots of fun, but the FBW might give you a few puzzled looks. ;)
While it's matured since it first came out it still has a way to go to reach perfect regional airliner status.

:ok:

Thanks Willie,

Care to elaborate on the FBW qualities?

IMO it wouldn't take much to beat the handling qualities of the 737NG!

How good is the automatic flight system? Better than the NG I hope.

The FBW seems to like to generate EICAS messages with regularity. Some can't be cleared until you're on the ground but all in all a nuisance you quickly learn to adapt to. At least it has an EICAS.:D

The NG has a problem with approach mode. :ugh:
Once engaged it's a bit of a finger exercise to get out of APPR mode and select another mode.:=
The EMB can handle a LMC.:D

As for handling characteristics it's pretty forgiving and probably as easy to land as the NG.:ok:
