View Full Version : UK PPL exams and learning abroad

Hi, I went solo this summer in the UK, but have recently become frustrated with the weather and would like to go abroad to finish my PPL.

I'll not just blame old Blighty, it's more down to wanting to complete it in a 3 week chunk and also I think it'll be more of an experience finishing it in the US or South Africa. That's not to say I don't have a budget, but I imagine that, given the stage I'm up to, finishing in the UK would be roughly equivalent to finishing it abroad.

So, my question is:

Will I have to redo the exams I've passed thus far in the UK (air law, met, flight performance and planning, technical [and maybe nav]) to comply with US/S African standards?

Or, can I use these towards the granting of a licence abroad?

Finally, if this is not the case, is it poss to complete my flight training abroad and then take my flight exam once back in the UK? Has anyone ever done this?

Any comments would be most appreciated!:ok:
