Heathrow Runway Alternation

We are due to re-start westerly alternations today, or if delayed tomorrow at 3pm. If it does happen today, expect a change to 27R departures at some point.

Could you expand on that? I thought they always changed over at 3 to relieve residents of noise?

Quincy, you're quite correct but the alternation programme has been on hold for a few weeks because of work in progress precluding departures from 27R.

We attempted to depart from 27R for the best part of an hour, but the taxiway layout and remaining WIP make the whole thing a pain in the arse! Needless to say we are now back departing on the left!

Alternations will restart from next Tuesday when the rest of the work on Alpha (north) reopens!

The alterations on Alpha next to 27R have taken a quite ridiculous amount of time. It wouldn't happen anywhere else in the world. A disgrace!!

It's taken almost as long as the work on the M4 spur.....!

At least they are creating more space, or so it seems on the M4 Spur roundabout....... Could have done with a 3rd runway while they are at it!! :)

Will they be doing similar to the 27L holding area?

What a shame - as a 4.5d for 27L dweller I've been enjoying these last few (10?) weeks of relative peace. Does that mean at some stage it'll be non-stop arrivals on 27L, or is there more space down at the holding area for 27L :}

Still - at least I'll be able to see the milkman's car from my seat again.

I would imagine they would do the same and put arrivals on 27L all the time, although someone who knows a bit more than me might have to answer that one.

Presumably if the work was going on on the North side of 27L then you could still take departures from the Southside??
