Routing suggestions please for a VFR delivery flight to Athens! A quick look at the chart suggests that Albania is in the way!

A/c cruises at 120kts and has 10 hrs endurance but I guess I'd want to land with at least 2 hours remaining every time I picked up fuel. I'd also want easy legs of 2-3 hrs.

This need not be a marathon:p :p and I have the latitude to make it interesting and unrushed.

Thanks

Where abouts in Athens are you taking the plane to?
Eleftherios Venzelos Intl?

I did it last year in a single hop from Jersey.

I prefer Italian hospitality (in the event of needing to land there) to the alternatives in Albania/former Yugoslavia. The Ionian sea crossing will be very short @120kts and Corfu is a lovely stopover.

You will probably be looking at a routing via Cannes, Corsica, Elba, Ponsa, Brindisi, Corfu, Athens.

Good luck,
SB

I would agree with SB's routing. However, the Corsica route is a long over-water crossing, out of radio contact at 1000ft below the stupid Italian Class A airspace extending many miles offshore.

10hrs endurance - sounds like a DA40/DA42?? They can do the Alps at FL160 easy, with oxygen of course. Direct UK to say Trieste, then one leg to Corfu or even the destination. Greece is quite limited in airfields with Customs and Avgas.

VFR past Albania is OK. Montenegro is the pain; Albania (LATI) is extremely nice; I've been past VFR and landed there (IFR) a couple of months ago (Euro 230!).

You have a PM, Stik.

I'd go with SBs suggestion - done several Caravans this year via Cannes. Not VFR but not pressurised either. Cannes is a quick, easy stop and cheaper than most places in Italy. Route off the west coast of Italy and there's no congestion but you can see the coast. Several places to stop enroute if the wind is not quite as forecast.
Venizelos requires a handling agent to escort you around and prior permission (in writing) for parking. Not that it ever seemed busy or crowded..............
I'd also want easy legs of 2-3 hrs.

I assume somebody else is paying?;)

Are you looking for a Co-Pilot Stick? I would be more than happy to pay for the go-go juice!:ok:

Stik,
When are you doing this?
As I would like to come along if you need a pal to break the monotony, and keep an eye on you in the evenings;)

Top suggestions everyone - I had thought Italy to be the way but IO540's website really has helped cement that idea.

Lister if my CPL(H) chum is busy "flinging wings", of course you can come. We'll need to pinch some Jepp airways charts from your neighbour!

It is likely to be late Nov/early Dec - the deal is done verbally. All I need now is to see some wonga.

Cannes - Siena - Pescara - Corfu - athens

or Cannes - Perugia - Brac (Croatia) - Corfu - Athens

Tirana is very expensive (153 euro c152 1 night stopover) and they do not have avgas.

Brindisi: fuel is expensive at 2.40 euro/litre

Rome Urbe is a bit of a hassle.

I just did....

Gamston - Rouen - lyon bron - Cannes - Perugia - Corfu - Athens

Nice and relaxed with reasonable length legs, my aircraft ran on Jet A1 so if you require Avgas check before departure, You also need to get approval to land at both Corfu & Athens.

Enjoy the trip...:ok:
