Hi,
I am a private helicopter pilot in the uk and have flown france/spain.
I start a contract in munich and wanted to to keep my helicopter hours up.
Does anyone know if/where to hire r22/44's in munich?
Any differences in law i should be aware of?

thanks for any advice.

Dear PY,
I flew my Mooney to Berlin Schonhagen a couple of months ago and was very surprised to hear the rules re: helicopters in Germany.

According to a fellow Mooney pilot and R44 pilot it is against the law to land anywhere other than an airfield in Germany.

Something to do with WWII and jews escaping apparently.

He told me that there are 1 or 2 heliports but that one is unable to fly from one's home to another private location (kinda defeats the advantages that helicopters have over fixed wing).

Munich, which I also vivited in my Mooney last year is a beautiful and lively city but the GA fraternity there lost their little airfield some time ago and there is nowhere else to go than the big international airport.

Good luck with your search, I am sure you will find somewhere,

SB

Hallo pilot_yak,

I live in the north of munich and I`m sorry, there are no R22 or R44 around here for charter/selfhire (only H269C in Jesenwang and Augsburg ca. 30 km in the west of munich).
There is a private owend R44 in Jesenwang, but I heard it is not for selfhire.

Maybe in the north of bavaria .......

or in Donaueschingen .......
http://www.htc-helicopter.de/1024/html/preise.html

Other locations for R22 are Stuttgart and Salzburg (Austria).

Rates are extremly high, because avgas is €uro 2.15 per liter now

Air Law: everything for what are helicopters made is forbidden :-(

Good luck and a great non-flying-time (enjoy the beer) in bavaria

Herbert

Told to me by a German professor (the chopper pilot I met in Berlin)!

Not my theory,
