I fly an A340 for an Airline and have often wondered what the Flight Ops department have put in the Equipment field for the Aircraft when filing a flight plan.
I have managed to find all the abbreviations except "P" and "Q" which when looked up in the Aerad Volumes say that it is "NOT ALLOCATED".
I have asked the Flight Ops peronnel and they can't give me an answer, so I would really appreciate it if anyone can shed some light on this topic.

P and Q are both flavors of RNAV equipment, IIRC

I believe that /P is a valid field 10 code for carriage of a Mode S transponder, including pressure-altitude transmission, but no aircraft identification transmission. I don't think /Q is defined in PANS-ATM, but I notice that it is a valid field 10 code in an FAA flight plan for RNP capability with RVSM.
Would the codes you have seen happen to relate to a flight plan filed to/from the US as this may explain the /Q?

Hi
We dispatch A340 as well so had a look. We don't have Q included, and it is not listed in any of our books so can't help on that one.
As to letter P
Before the / is P-RNAV (should also have letter R as well)
After the / is SSR equipment Mode S with press ALT, but without ACFT ID transmission.
Hope this helps, but remember, I'm only a dispatcher :-)
