I seem to recall, once upon a time, that there was a requirement for 20 hours of ground training to be given and logged by a student pilot before an instructor could send the student up as a private pilot candidate. However, in reviewing part 61, I don't see an hours-related ground training requirement, although of course there are required knowledge areas. Yet I would swear that when I was doing my PPL training (over 15 years ago, alas), 20 hours ground was a requirement.

Was this once a requirement which has been removed? Or is it a part 141-specific requirement? Or was it never an FAA requirement, and I'm just nuts? :p

Can I ask, did you instruct under part 61 or part 141?
