Although I have flown numerous times to France , I am already looking ahead to next summer !
France is easy , but can anyone give any advice as to whether prior permission for a PFA type ( a Luscombe in this case, so not a home built ) is required to visit The Netherlands/Germany/ Belgium / Luxembourg

The info you need is on the PFA website in Technical Leaflet 2.08 (http://www.pfa.org.uk/Engineering%20pdfs/Operating%20an%20Aircraft%20ona%20PFA%20Permit/Operating%20an%20Aircraft%20ona%20PFA%20Permit/TL%202.08%20Travelling%20abroad%20in%20a%20Permit%20Aircraft .pdf).

In short, some do and some don't!

With the exception of Belgium, there is no formality for the countries you want for amateur built aircraft (factory built permit a/c may be different).
Belgium, I believe, requires prior authorization and about 50 Euros!

Also, not that commonly known, the Channel Islands require prior authorization too (but at no cost and easily arranged).

It's not possible to get a noise certificate for a UK permit aeroplane, as there's no requirement to issue one against.

At worst, you will have to pay a landing fee supplement, but a bit of arguing will often get around it. If you can find a German aircraft with the same type/engine/prop etc, they can use that as a basis.
