Hello Hogg I did PM you but still no way to access the DHL/ACL/EAT/BAC/SAFAIR Forum I have applied to EAT so would very much like access to this please.
Any tips on how to get an interview would be great. No reply from CV yet. Cheers

The private forum is for employees of the group of companies only albeit its going a bit quiet.
Ive not been able to reply to the PM as Ive got a fulltime job and have just signed in
With regard to an EAT interview no idea what they do or how they run it, best do a search or request info on Freight Dogs.

Best Luck

Lot of come and go in EAT these days. Many people are somewhat apprehensive with this Leipzig move I think, therefore pilots try and find a more certain future. We shall thus need many newcomers to fill the gaps. Are you applying as captain or f/o, Ace?

It's on the airbus that they need people: one more aircraft due any time now and short of crews already. Don't see why they wouldn't have you. A bit of patience though, they're a bit short of instructors. Don't be surprised to get a call one day that your course starts tomorrow morning.

Hello:

I am new to this forum. How can I apply to EAT? The DHL website is not very much of help.

I flew for EAT back in '99-'00 on the 727's with Express One. Lived in Belgium for two years. My son was born in Brussels, so we all have beautiful memories about our short stay there. I have been flying the A300B4 as FE until june of this year. Looking for other A300 work, but it looks like I have to think moving to Asia. I would prefer to go back to Europe. Have an european passport.

I recently got my FAA ATP with a B-737 type rating. therefore I would like to upgrade some day.

I will a appreciate any help. PM me for my email. Thks.

Hi,

DHL Brussels is presently facing Age Discrimination Litigation involving 4, B757 Captains, who were terminated due to the French Regulations which apparently since Nov. 23rd. 2006 have been rescinded.
It is gratifying to compliment DHL UK who have not invoked such unnecessary terminations.
A group of Lufthansa Pilots have brought, similar litigation against their Company. A ruling will be made in March next year.
Deutsche Post Chairman, Dr. Zumwinkel, has been officially qouted in the German media to vehemently oppose age discrimination in any form. The official website of Deutsche Post itemises in its Code of Ethics that age discrimination will not be tolerated in any way and specifically demands that all its associated companies apply the same ethical standards.
It appears Deutsche Post Executive Management may not be aware of the impending Litigation in Brussels.

Snam,
Given the social security payments, the extra (compulsory) pilot SS payments and the extremely high rate of personal income tax, expect to lose 60% of your gross unless you can arrange an 'ex-pat' contract. Could be difficult as all future contracts are supposed to be Leipzig based.

SNAM, that will be about 2700 a 3000 € a month (net) once after line training and flying a good roster... (depending per diems etc)

And second, there are no German contracts, and (at EAT) never will be.
Normally within months or so, they will start giving LEJ based contracts, but EAT stays a Belgian company , with Belgian AOC. So contracts are Belgian, just a different base.

1 or 2 weeks ago, 10 new guys started and they have all received, Brussels based contracts...

We'll see... but for now everything is very good here at EAT, there are always people complaining. And the guys who like it here, you simply don't hear, unfortunately :)

But here's one!

I have read most of what is written about dhl, good and bad, but i was wondering if there are any newish first officers that could perhaps give me an insight of what their lifestyle is like at the moment?

Curiously, I have freinds who swear blind that working freight is a total nightmare on the social life. I find it difficult to believe considering DHL pilots tend to do about 350 hours a year. And the money is just as good, if not better than pax flying pilots.

so , lin essence: Less time at work and more money to live life with!......or am i wrong?

any comments appreciated

At the moment we're getting about eight days a month off. That's eight days at home in a whole month! The rest is spent in crew rooms and hotels with a bit of flying in between.
Typically , I'm doing five on two off, sometimes seven on three off and I've had more than one pattern that consisted of seven on one off and then six on!
It should compare favorably with other airlines for time off, but not the way they are working it at the moment.
On your two days off at home you will be shattered from the duty during the week and just about the time you get sorted, you're back at work again.
They are looking at improving the roster, but they have been making promises about that for years now and no solution in sight.
They'll tell you at the interview that it works out to about even days off and on but that simply isn't true.
the vast numbers leaving at the moment (five this week) aren't improving the roster situation either.

Avenging Angel
25th May 2007, 10:34
"What about the Leave, is it easy to get what you generally want?"

Generally yes, particularly if you apply early enough. And any days off required should not be a problem if the rosters have not been issued. The rosters are generally issued around the middle of the month, for the month after next i.e July roster issued by middle of May (don't think too many can beat that).

Rostering team considered to be pretty much the best in the business, constrained only by the numbers they have to work with.

I'm working for them since quite a long time Itch. Flying Cargo is not the problem ....the biggest issue is that the management is unable to respect people and if you add a useless training dept and scheduling practices that allows them to make you flight more than 12 Hrs a night, you'll realize that after having lost your girl friend (wife ??) bcs you're never home,do not expect any rewards from the company for the hard work you did...not a thanks

Be aware that DHL runs 2 airlines in Europe. DHL Air, and EAT. FTLs are different and DHL Air are restricted by CAP 371 (with some variations) and do not fly for more than 12 hours. As has been said, people are working hard at the moment, noone will try to hide that, but I find it does suit my life well, and normally get to see plenty of my (very young) family.

I work for DHL Air. It has its issues for sure, and some that some are leaving over, put you makes your own choices about what will suit you the best. Listen very carefully to what is said in these pages, some is severely over stated. As I said the issues that have been mentioned elsewhere are concerning, but for me the lifestyle has and will, I am sure be again, reasonable compemsation

You fly only 350 years but the duty hours will be so much more than that.

You will fly less than a passenger airline pilot but work much more.

Must be a different DHL to the one I'm working for, cos most people are doing well to get 10 off a month at the moment:(

Chai Ja you can live more or less where you like, people live all over the UK and some abroad. The onus is on the individual to make sure they are available within two hours when on Standby.

TenAndie, what you actually need to know is the time you can expect to spend away from home.

You'll do about 3,000 hours per year - that's about 65 hours a working week. Mr Angry from Purley is correct in that about 1,000 hours will be treated as duty hours, and you can expect to do between 300 and 350 flight hours per year.

any info is welcome. thnx for reading so far.:D

Not sure what you guys are expecting but i would have thought someone with 600 hours would be jumping at £28k, allowances and the opportunity to fly the 757. I would expect to gain the FO status once your ATPL is unfrozen.
I know the job has a lot of drawbacks but salary certainly isn't one of them.

wheelbarrow
26th Jun 2007, 16:46
You've gotta be kidding, £28,000 is undercutting the job by about £20,000.

I feel sorry for the poor captains these guys will be flying with. DHL ought to be recruiting experienced first officers and they should be paying the going rate.

silverknapper
26th Jun 2007, 21:37
They are also recruiting experienced guys and paying them the going rate ie £44k+. This salary scale is for inexperienced guys. A lot of airlines have seperate scales for FO;s compared to Senior FO's. The fact they have to lower their standards to employ inexperienced people is more an indicator of the current market and of low morale and limited appeal as opposed to salary. At the end of the day the choice is there, apply or don't.

Hi there!

All questions following now are related to DHL Air UK... I ask again since the previous pages did not clearly state if it was about EAT or DHL.

Could one please clarify if you need a rating to be considered as experienced FO or is just the TT and time on Jet relevant?
So would one with 2300+ TT and 2000+ on Jet be in the 44k or 28k salary scheme?
Since PPJN states under Rosters: "Unusual rosters due to 40+ pilots leaving" can anyone please comment on how many days OFF is normal and how many days/nights you work.
Let's say you live in LEJ, is it a good company to fly for (besides the smoke/smell in the Cockpit mattter)?

Cheers,

HJ :}

28,000 to start with is not the problem - that's fair enough, consider they pay for the TR.
Someone said here that the increments are 2,000 a year without mentioning any jump to an f/o salary at any point.
If you are saying that there is a jump, or someone with ATPL can join directly on an f/o pay that's another story - that a good alternative for the charters or EZ, for example.

To follow on from the previous posts, this question is regarding DHL UK payscales.

What salary would be reasonable for a 2000 hour guy with a recent heavy turboprop command ? 28K was hinted at at interview. Would love to move to the 757 but if that salary is correct I couldn't afford the move across :{

Dear SNAM....EAT salary depends on your belgian contract. If you're a belgian ...expect 2000€/month after taxes (also after paying your belgian pension contribution) on top you get perdiems (count on 600€/month net)...if you're a non belgian you can get a belgian ex-pat contract ...so add 30% net ....these are initial salaries. There's an initiative going on by belgian carriers to reduce taxes for crews (to avoid the belgian crews to flee to other outfits...non belgian) ...for info...also the professional sporters threatened to leave belgium and they got a taxrate of 18% (before it was 55-60%) ...so pretty soon all might change for the better.
