In terms of things to do, how would you rate the above for a couple of months from Jan. What are the good and bad things about each location for a 29 year old clueless person?

CYYC - Nice Townhouse fairly new - $200,000

CYVR - Small 600 sq ft. condo - $350,000

YYC and YVR are the two happening places these days. YWG in Jan ?? Ouch

YYC- skiing, snow, cold
YWG- hmmm...it's affordable?

Winnipeg: Only been there a few times - airport visits not included - defer to Jerricho.

Calgary: Never liked their downtown, just a bunch of corporate concrete. Few trees anywhere and those that are there always seem to be struggling. Very dependant on cars and pick-ups - like a mini LA. Sprawling sub-divisions. Mountains a fair way away. House prices more reasonable than YVR but they're catching up because of bubbling oil prices. They, over the years have had snow in every month of the year. I've spent many a time standing outside YYC airport having a ciggie in -20C waiting for a flight. They do have a stampede type thing but I never go because I've got this thing about cruelty to animals. Ye-Haw.

Vancouver: Actually less rain than most of England but still "temperate rain forest". House prices out of this world. Boating, hiking, walking,skiing, camping. You can get from downtown to the gondola up to Grouse Mountain in 20 minutes. Lots of parks including one of the best - Stanley Park - 1100 hectares - seawalk, lagoons and beaches and very tall trees. On average, a couple of days of snow a year at sea level - this year basically none. Whistler is close. Other ski mountains are close. Good public transit. Great and wildly varied restaurants and lots of them. Lots of theatres. A good foundation of friends of the earth type thingys. Crime rates relatively low unless you live in Surrey and Newton and own a car. Good air connections. Generally pleasant and laid-back. Lotus Land.

In that order. As previously stated, lots of things to do in YVR a few things to do in YYC and nothing to do in YWG in January.

Winnipeg in January is an experience one and all must fit in to their lives.......

That way, when somebody says "It's cold" you can reply "Bollocks! I've been to Winnipeg, now THAT'S cold" :E ;)

Winterpeg in summer is host to the largest, most vicious, snarling females ever known to man....

Actually GreatCircle, the mozzies this year have been no where near hellish. Haven't had to fire up the SkeeterVac at all to sit outside in the evening. Then again, it's been so dry over the past 2 months, there's been no standing water around. Plus, they've told that stupid tree-hugging hippie the city hired as their "control expert" to STFU and gave the whole place a nice healthy does of malathion..........
