View Full Version : Dual Type Rating B744/B777
Heard that a neighbouring airline was considering having cockpit crew operate both the B744 and B777 at the same time.
Can anyone tell me if there is any airline in the world with a similiar policy for these two particular aircraft?
Thanks

Having just converted from the '77 to '47 I am very aware of the similarities of these two Boeings - but equally their differences :hmm:
I'm sure that there are highly competent pilots who could operate both types but for the average "Joe" there is obviously a recency question. What if you (say) went 3 weeks without touching a '47 but had amassed 70hrs on the '77 in that time?

I once knew a capt at American Airlines that was a Capt on the 747 and a check airman on the DC-10 at the same time. That must have been a little confusing everytime he showed up to work.

I know a 744 capt who is doing crossover training to 777. I presume he'll be flying both. What's the big deal anyway? :E

When I worked in the States most of the pilots in the company were dual rated (usually 707/DC-8 or DC-8/DC-10). They didn't seem to have any difficulty with this.
The Chief Pilot and the Chief Trainer were quadruple qualified (707/727/DC-8/DC-10). They spent most of their time in the simulator trying to stay current!

Why? Just count the number of engines while you do the walkaround, and you know where you stand!!! :E :E :}
