Sorry if these questions sounds silly and obvious but im just curious

1. After training with NATS, are you posted to a NATS airport/centre/facility for your ratings?? or can you opt to go and work for a different organisation...... (say) Luton/Serco facility etc??? (If not how does Luton and the other guys get their recruits and where/how do they train them??

2. If it is that NATS only posts you to a NATS facility, how can one move from NATS to...... (say) a different facility eg to Luton, how hard and how long could that take.... just curious

3. If lets say after copleting your trainng at NATS you were posted at Bristol or stansted but originally wanted Gatwick or Heathrow, can you at some stage apply to Heathrow/gatwick if a job came up. Would you have a drop in salary etc if you moved

thanks guys

ATC at Luton is Nats, so all the ATCOs there are Nats guys and gals.

Hi Shamrock274.As DR has pointed out,Luton is a NATS unit.
If you train at the NATS college at Bournemouth then you will be posted to a NATS unit to validate.
There is another college, not sure where it is now, where ATC training takes place.Non-NATS units get their staff trained at one of the colleges or fill positions through recruiting controllers from elsewhere. There are loads of non NATS airports-some of the biggest/busiest at the moment being East Midlands,Newcastle,Prestwick,Belfast City. If you work for NATS and want to move to a non NATS unit then you have to apply for that job, same as everyone else. Movement of staff from one NATS unit to another is relatively common and can also involve moving up or down the pay scale.
Cheers,rolaaand.
