From a magazine article concerning fronts: "Barometric pressure always falls before frontal passage, reaches its lowest point as the front moves by, then rises after passage. Fronts cause air masses to lift, and it's this upward motion that lessens the effective weight(and therefore the pressure) of the air molecules acting on the surface."


Never heard that explanation before but perhaps makes sense. Has anyone else?
