View Full Version : Loading flight plans into an IFR GPS

It has been "accepted" for ages that the reason one cannot load a flight plan (e.g. from Navbox or Flitestar) into any IFR GPS is because it is banned by certification requirements.

I have enquired in all the usual places, including GPS manufacturers, but everybody just regurgitates the same old story, above.

Can anyone point me to a reference?

However, it's obviously technically possible in some cases. For example Garmin GNSx30 have a "crossfill" feature whereby a flight plan from one unit can be copied to another unit, over the ARINC bus. I don't fly with these but believe this feature requires both to have the same edition of database for it to work, which would make sense as e.g. some airways intersections come and go as SIDs and STARs get modified. This interface would be easy to reverse engineer for loading flight plans.

The KLN94 has no known way of doing it at all.
