Congratulations to Arik Air for placing the first Nigerian brand new jet order since 1982! I guess they will operate this stretched version on the trunk routes and leave the CRJ200 (50 seats) for shorter flights to state capitals.
This will be interesting to follow :)

This is surely goodnews and hopefully this will help accelerate the transformation on nigeria's aviation sector. With Arik, Aero and Virgin having young fleets, the other players might have not choice but to consolidate or go under.

The CRJ 900 has a shorter range than the CRJ 200 , so it would most likely be vice-versa.

Both the CRJ200 and 900 variants can operate any route within Nigeria. I only meant the -900 variant will most probably operate the trunk routes (LOS-ABV/PHC/KAN) while the -200 can fly thinner routes (LOS-CBQ/ENU/MIU or ABV-PHC/KAN, etc).

With 10 J and 65 Y class seats this is a CRJ 705. It has much better range than the 200. A great machine!!!

The 900 has some recently certified range extensions which may help.

Its going to be a very interesting year, rumour has it that there is huge panic over at VK right now because of the arrival of Arik. Guys at VK are being targetted by Arik and one has already done a runner, many more are rumoured to follow suit. We fairly new guys are looking at all this from the fence, and ready to abandon present ship at the first sign of openings over at the other side (VK or Arik).

panic over arik in vk,from my sources no such thing,in fact vk seems to be concentrating more on its long haul, it appears they are very comfortable with there regional ops.If aero does not panic vk i dont think anyone right now can, theres a lot more to aquiring fancy brand new aircraft like getting competent brains to run it and if they are getting there pool from ex nigeria airways??????????????? good luck they will need lots of it

18left,

Some ex-WT people are very capable, some of the best engineers+pilots. However a fortune will have to be spent on training/re-training them to take Arik where it wants to go. As u said, good luck to them.
