View Full Version : When to leave - my list

Having seen the "10 things I love about Basrah" I thought it might be interesting to see if anyone else thinks like I do. I keep a list of the things that annoy me, or ways our terms and conditions have been eroded. When the list gets too long to be worth my rate of pay, I'll leave.

If I kick off with a few items on my list, why don't we all join in?

1. No more cups of tea in the morning.
2. Can't get a Nav watch for love nor money any more.
3. Ditto flying gloves
4. Ditto long johns
5. PAYD
6. Capped actuals
7. Studies and change initiatives that are brought in before the last one's complete
8. "I will write to the honorable member and place a copy of my letter in the library of the House of Commons"
9. FOI
10. More and more hassle and rules for less and less low-level every year

Any takers?

13. Getting told that as a Cpl I can't talk to a civvy like an LAC (even when an SAC is above her, rank wise) when her work isn't up to scratch.

Guys,

I've been there and I have great sympathy. BUT, do you think that the RAF is the only organisation with problems? The grass may be brown and dry in the Service, but it could be dust and ashes elsewhere. I've worked for a couple of larger organisation, on both sides of the Atlantic, and I've met and had to deal with a number of dimwits and jobsworths, just as I did in the RAF.

Just check before you jump!

Just for the record, I jumped when the housing was sold off and the medical services collapsed.

Dimwit levels are severely increased in Civvy Strasse. - mainly because the worst of them can be there for LIFE - not just for a two or three year tour!

I wouldn't recommend some of them for their fitter courses, let alone their Tapes!

It can also be an "If your face fits.." world where you quickly learn patience, so the slower ones in charge can catch up, and selective silence, so the dimwits don't sack you!

Its not all bad though - regular time off and leaving work behind all evenings and weekends.
Not having to go where you don't want to. (And also not going to where you DO want to go!)
Oh - And the remuneration too!

As was just said - Look before you leap.

(oh $hit, they already have!!!!)

Kind regards

ps maxburner, I tend to agree very slightly with you, but the grass has long been burnt off in the RAF and the grass is now a desert style wilderness. It may not all be better outside, but at least those who have jumped are having a better time, a safer time and much more importantly, a happier time.

27. When senior officers forget that people are their most important asset.
28. Seeing how other armed forces treat their people whilst serving and on retirement.
29. The eucalyptus tree syndrome.
30. Spineless OJAR writers.
31. Politicians getting our guys killed for lies.
32. So called 'leaders' with no moral standards.....you know who you are!

I have to say, the grass is most definately greener....it just depends on where you choose to jump. I could go on but I have just found out I have been paid my lump sum and I need to go to the toy shop!

Beers!

It's the kind of smile normally associated with inmates of a lunatic asylum. Goes with the thousand yard stare often seen on current members....

Does the outback count as desert? If so then the answer is YES, although not the desert we know and love. :rolleyes: Unless I've got it all wrong and this is a new variation on the bear in woods/pope kind of thing.:}
