Does anyone know the details of a BA 747 nose wheel up laning in BAH in 1983( MARCH APRIL ) followed by an evacutaion. A friend of mine was on that flight and says they were on an flight from AUH to LHR and diverted to KWI due to Engine trouble. In KWI the problem was fixed and on the KWI LHR flight they developed futher engine trouble with "smoke in one enigne" (as quoted by the captain) forcing them to divert to BAH. This time the nosewheel wouldn't come down and a nose wheel up landing was performed. Apperantly the captain did an excellent job especcially in keeping the pax informed as to what was going on. The passengers were mostly expat teens returning to UK schools so the 3 day layover in a BAH ending up being a big party!!!

Hmmm.... diverting to BAH on the way from KWI to LHR?

Bit like diverting to Paris on the way from LHR to NCL!

Haven't heard of this one though.

BahrainLad: At that time (83) it would have made a lot of sense to BA actually.
They had frequent large aircraft operations out of BAH/MCT so passenger dispersal would have been easy and Engineering support available for that aircraft type.

Icarus, didn't think of that.

How serious was the 'engine trouble' though?

Parents honeymoon got held up in DOH on the way from LHR to SIN (1980) - had to wait for a part from....Bahrain. Funny how they went to live there 9 years on...
