I was just driving along the A128 (Brentwood Road) in Orsett, Essex. When I noticed a grass airfield beside the road. There was about 8 or 10 planes parked up near a large house. Next to this was a barn/hangar with "THURROCK" written right across the roof in large white writing.

I've just had a quick look at the latest CAA chart and I can see it on there but I can't find out any further info in Pooleys or the aerodromes section of the AIC.

I was just wondering if anyone had information on THURROCK? Its really close to my parents so it would be great to use in the future.

It's in Pooleys under Private Airfields/Strips; page 604 of the loose leaf 2005/6 edition.
Runway 07/25 650m.
Chap who owns it is very pleasant but not always there. Like all airfields he has the usual NIMBY's who object to him keeping his aircraft there, hence he has rules like 'no circuit bashing' but he might be amenable to visitors.

Its certainly in the AFE flight guide. Runway is 25/07, 650 x 30, 25ft amsl.

Well that will teach me to look in an "old" copy of Pooleys!!

I wonder if there are some group aircraft there then? Because as I said there was between 8 - 10 aircraft sitting with covers on. I'll have to go and investigate.

Airfields in Essex (and some others) (http://www.stevelevien.com/airfields.htm)

Barnards Farm is also open to visitors and is at the A127 end of the A128.
